Welcome to the Knoechel Lab!
Our research efforts focus on identifying epigenetic dependencies in pediatric tumors with a particular focus on high risk pediatric leukemias and sarcomas. Defects in chromatin and aberrant epigenetic regulation and oncogenic transcription frequently occur in pediatric cancers. Our lab uses modern next generation sequencing technologies for chromatin state analysis and genome editing tools to comprehensively investigate the molecular mechanisms of epigenetic alterations, to characterize their interplay with the transcriptional machinery in cancer cells and to define their disease relevance. These studies have immediate implications for novel therapeutic targeting of epigenetic modifiers, developing novel biomarkers that measure their effect and predict responses, and their translation into early phase clinical trials.
